The Council of Europe will host a conference focussed on freedom of expression, justice, children’s rights and wellbeing in XR, bringing together experts and practitioners from the Council of Europe, academia, and industry.
The conference will examine how immersive technologies are reshaping the challenges for human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. The discussion will focus on topics including freedom of expression in immersive realities, children’s rights and online safety, justice and jurisdiction, virtual evidence and broader questions of health, as well as ethics and well-being.
The Council of Europe’s intergovernmental committee on media will organise the event, alongside the information society and the European Metaverse Research Network under the auspices of the Monaco Presidency of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers.
Taking place on May 18 and 19, the conference aims to contribute to the consultation process towards a ‘New Democratic Pact for Europe’.
