Intel starts work on US chip factories amid ongoing supply chain woes
Intel Corp begun work on two chip factories in Arizona in a bid to meet demand and reduce US reliance on chip manufacturers in Asia.

The company has already said it plans to regain its crown as a leader in chip manufacturing, pledging to make the smallest, fastest chips by 2025.

While the $20 billion plants won’t immediately relieve the ongoing global chip shortage, the investment, that will see Intel make chips for outside customers, hopes to avoid problems in the future.

In an interview with Reuters, Pat Gelsinger, chief executive at Intel, said the company was steeping up to ensure resilience in the supply chain.

Reuters also reported that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing had bought land in Phoenix to build its first US campus where it is planning to build up to six chip factories.
