Reports are emerging that Google is working on a standalone AR headset similar to Microsoft's HoloLens system, it will use new Qualcomm chips and will be built by Taiwanese contract manufacturer Quanta.
It is widely expected the AR headset will be similar to Microsoft’s HoloLens, a headset released in 2016 aimed at design, training, and industrial use.
The project is still in its early stages, according to documents obtained by
WinFuture.
Internally the product is being called Google A65, and works without a PC. To do this it relies on new chips from Qualcomm. There’s no release date yet for the Google A65 as it’s still in the prototype stage, according to WinFuture.
The development of the Google A65 is carried out in collaboration with the Taiwanese contract manufacturer Quanta, who build for the US group, among other things, the Pixel C Tablet. It is expected the headset will include camera sensors and microphones, which can be voice controlled.
