An LED glass floor has been removed due to “mixed reviews” during the Big 12 men’s basketball tournament, allegedly causing headaches and being “slippery”.
The glass floor, delivered by ASB GlassFloor, was introduced for the debut at the 2026 Phillips 66 Big 12’s Men and Women’s basketball tournaments in March 2026, held at the T-Mobile Centre in Kansas City, USA.
The installation marked the first that that ASB GlassFloor’s LED court technology had been used for an official competition in the USA.
Some players complained that the lights from the LED floor had caused players to develop migraines, caused distractions, and led to slips during play.
The league said that the court met the standards of traditional courts.
The glass floor was removed in favour of a traditional hardwood floor. Speaking to KCTV5, Brett Yormark, commissioner, Big 12, commented: “The court has received mixed reviews. And I’ve encouraged feedback from all the key stakeholders and participants and it’s very intentional.
“I met with the four coaches from the semifinal teams, and we collaborated on what the next step should be. And we all decided that ultimately the focus needs to be on four of the best brands in college basketball today and tomorrow and not the court. So, I made that decision.”
