Supersized LED screens to light up St. Petersburg stadium

A planned stadium in St. Petersburg, Russia, is set to be home to 125,000 square foot integrated LED screen sealed within a glass ‘envelope’

The stadium, called the CKA Ice Hockey Arena, has been designed by architecture/design firm Coop Himmelb(l)au, placing the supermassive screen at the very heart of the project.

The transparent screen will be made of LED dots, providing up to date information around the arena, with an additional LED screen above the main entrance, designed to be seen from afar.

The huge size of the displays requires an immense amount of power, with plans for the stadium stipulating a massive 125,700 square foot solar panel array on the roof of the building to reduce power grid consumption.
