VR headsets space-bound to treat astronauts’ mental health
Astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS), will receive a VR headset to address loneliness, marking the first time that a VR headset will be sent into space to treat mental health concerns.

Danish astronaut Andreas Morgensen will be the first to test the custom-configured HTC Vive headset, which will be part of NASA’s SpaceX CRS-29 launch, scheduled for November 9th.

VR headsets have been used in orbit before, with previous tests aboard the ISS resulting in motion sickness due to the lack of gravity vectors to align orientation for astronauts using the system. To overcome this, a new tracking system has been developed that uses the headset’s controllers to tackle the problem.
