Pixel Artworks and light artist Rupert Newman collaborated to deliver a vivid show at Printworks Manchester, Europe’s largest digital ceiling.
The latest in Pixel Artworks’ ‘Originals’ series, an art, culture and purpose driven experience that is available to license globally. The new exhibition, titled Spaces Up Above, is inspired by the vibrancy of summer, featuring waves of vivid hues, tropical fish and coral-inspired patterns, creating a dreamscape that illuminates the Printworks’ digital ceiling. The display marks the first time that Newman’s work has been shown at Printworks Manchester, following showcases to audiences in Hong Kong, Venice, and Abu Dhabi.
Pixel Artworks offers its collaborators with personalised production support to transform traditional art practices into new media experiences, and also offers industrial-scale rendering facilities, visualisiation services, and creative and technical production departments to amplify and roll out co-pproductions.
Pixel Artworks and Rupert Newman have collaborated for more than 10 years, with the printworks exhibition marking the latest in a long line of collaborations between the light artist and Pixel Artworks. Rupert Newman explains: “The artwork is about bringing people off the streets to be immersed in a magical world. All the work begins by hand in my sketchbook with watercolour paint. I then scan the paintings into a computer and bring them to life using various animation techniques. I also add another layer of life which involves fish, butterflies, and flamingos. See if you can spot them here at Printworks!”
