Samsung has installed its first commercial Cinema LED Screen in Korea after announcing the technology concept earlier this year.
The screen, installed at the Lotte Cinema World Tower, is supported with audio from Harman and Samsung Audio Lab.
It measures nearly 10.3m wide, has 4K resolution (4,096 x 2,160) and peak brightness levels of 146fL, which Samsung claims are nearly 10 times greater than that offered by standard projector technologies.
Samsung’s recent purchase, Harman, has also been drafted in for the project too. The LED screen is paired with audio technologies from JBL by Harman. Loudspeakers border the screen and are fed by proprietary audio processing technology and join JBL’s Sculpted Surround system.
The company claims that the new technology also widens the purposes of a cinema, something that cinema owners have attempted with varying success for some time. Samsung argues that the screen supports corporate events, concerts, sports event viewing and gaming competitions because it maintains its presentation capabilities in a range of dark and ambient lighting conditions.
Samsung revealed the product in March to coincide with the CinemaCon 2017 show in Las Vegas.
