Google has released a prototype of its Project Astra AR glasses for beta testing, incorporating augmented reality and multimodal AI capabilities.
The glasses form part of Google’s long-term plan to
deliver hardware with incorporated AI and AR features, with
the beta testing coinciding with Google’s new operating system, Android
XR, which allows developers to build XR-centric experiences for hardware
such as glasses and headsets. This operating system will
be incorporated into the Project Astra glasses as well as
the newly announced Samsung headset, Project Moohan.
Features present for
beta testing include multimodal understanding, multi-lingual functions, native audio
and memory, as well as tool use such as Google Maps.
