Ghostly Manor dark ride brought to life with Christie projection
Christie 1DLP laser projectors have been deployed at Ghostly Manor, a £3.5 million (approximately €4 million) dark ride at Paultons Park in Hampshire, UK.

The attraction, designed and installed by Lagotronics Projects, blends projection mapping, physical sets, and interactive gameplay to create an immersive haunted-house experience.

Six Christie DWU1100-GS and two DWU1400-GS projectors deliver content across eight themed environments, supporting Mack Rides and Lagotronics’ new Gameplay Theater ride format. Passengers are seated back-to-back in continuously rotating vehicles, each equipped with Phantom Phasers that let riders capture ghosts as they move through the attraction. The design supports high throughput in a compact footprint, concluding with a scoring and photo reveal scene.

The integration team faced challenges positioning the projectors at steep angles to prevent shadows from players while maintaining accurate geometry and blend. Christie provided technical support and specified 0.37–0.4:1 ultra-short-throw lenses to fill projection surfaces around 10m wide by 3.5m high.

“The audience reactions to the ride were great. Everybody was very enthusiastic about the experience as a whole,” said Jacco Groen in ’t Wout, CTO at Lagotronics Projects. “Paultons and their team did a marvellous job. It was a great team effort, and we are happy to have been a part of it.”

The attraction was delivered on schedule within 12 months, repurposing the site of a former 4D theatre.
