AV distributor Avnet is to close its unified communications business in the UK and will cease taking orders on Avaya, Lifesize and Audiocodes products at the end of March.
The company said UC technology was not core to its strategy and that it would be working with suppliers and partners to ensure the transition went smoothly.
Laura Harman, Sales Director of Avnet Technology Solutions, said: “Whilst unified communications technology is complementary to our UK portfolio, it is not core to our strategy.
“Our plan is to realign resources into other, more strategic areas of the business where we believe we can add more value to our business partners.
“As such we will be closing our unified communications business in the UK. We will be working with the supplier and business partners affected to ensure a smooth transition.â€
Avnet’s Marketing Director Linda Patterson said the company was aiming to redeploy staff where possible.
“With it not being a core business the team is very small and where possible we are looking to realign the resources elsewhere in the business – we are working through this process now,†she said.
