Apple's MX headset will require an iPhone to function according to a report in The Information.
The Information's sources say that Apple completed work on the system-on-chip element of the headset in 2020 and that the physical designs for that and two other chips intended for the device have also been completed.
Apple has also finished designing the device's display driver and image sensor.
It is believed that the MX headset will not feature Apple's Neural Engine, the machine-learning processor found in iPhones, iPads, and post-Intel Macs, and will instead rely on a nearby device (eg iPhone). The hardware in the headset is said to be less powerful than that currently found in Apple's phones or tablets.
Apple is planning to also release AR glasses in the future for the consumer market.
