Amazon installs augmented reality mirrors at experimental salon

Amazon is opening an experimental hair salon in London, UK, installing augmented reality mirrors and E-magazines to enhance the customer experience.

The Amazon Salon is set over two floors, trialling industry technology including AR hair consultations and point-and-learn technology.

John Boumphrey, UK country manager, Amazon, explained: “We have designed this salon for customers to come and experience some of the best technology, hair care products and stylists in the industry.

“We want this unique venue to bring us one step closer to customers, and it will be a place where we can collaborate with the industry and test new technologies.”

Customers will be able to experiment with a variety of virtual hair colours via augmented mirrors, using Amazon Fire tablets at each styling station to trial new looks in a specific creative area.

With point and learn technology, customers can point at the product they are interested in and access information such as brand videos and educational content on screen. To order, customers can scan a relevant QR code on the shelf to visit the product detail page.

The salon will initially open to Amazon employees only, before taking bookings for the general public in the coming weeks.
