Sharp has announced a new CEO for its European operation, promoting Yoshihisa (Bob) Ishida, executive vice president, to the position.
Mr Ishida, who joined Sharp Corporation as executive vice president in June 2017, takes over from Tetsuji (Ted) Kawamura, who will move to a position at Sharp Electronics Corporation (USA).
Sharp recently created an AIoT Business Strategy office, also to be headed by Mr Ishida, to look at Sharp’s application of AIoT, a fusion of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and IoT (Internet of Things), to a range of electronic products for homes and offices.
Mr Ishida, who has held corporate executive and advisory positions at Sony Corporation, Rakuten Corporation and LG Display Japan, said: “I am focused on driving innovation at Sharp, where we are developing connected technologies to support new ways of living and working.”
In other changes to the management team within Europe, Jun (Jeff) Ashida, currently president, information systems Europe, is promoted to the position of president, Sharp Electronics Europe, reporting to Mr Ishida.
Alex Hermann, currently vice president, Sharp Information Systems Europe, is promoted to the position of president, Sharp Information Systems Europe, reporting to Mr Ashida.
Mr Ishida will continue to be based at Sharp Corporation’s Japanese headquarters, Mr Ashida will remain based at Sharp Europe’s headquarters in the UK and Mr Hermann will remain based at Sharp Europe’s Zurich office.
