NAB launch: Audio-Technica MS stereo microphones
Audio-Technica has introduced two new mid-side (MS) stereo microphones at the NAB Show, targeting broadcast, production and field recording applications.

The BP350ST-UB and BP350ST-UL both use an MS capsule configuration, allowing users to control stereo image width while maintaining phase coherence. Through the included power module, operators can switch between left-right stereo output (wide or narrow) or discrete mid-side signals for postproduction adjustment.

The BP350ST-UB is designed for fixed-position capture and can be deployed using a low-profile boundary housing or a 5-in gooseneck with clip-on mount. This makes it suitable for applications including sports coverage, press conferences, theatre productions, studio environments and documentary work, where unobtrusive stereo ambience is required.

The BP350ST-UL is a compact stereo shotgun microphone built for camera mounting and mobile workflows such as ENG and run-and-gun production. Its 16cm interference tube and directional pickup are designed to isolate subjects while maintaining stereo imaging.

Both microphones use independent cardioid and figure-of-eight condenser elements, delivering consistent response at high sound pressure levels. The MS configuration also helps avoid issues such as time alignment errors and comb filtering, while ensuring recordings retain depth when summed to mono.

Each model includes an 80 Hz high-pass filter and outputs via TA5F to dual XLR, enabling connection to cameras or standard mic preamps with phantom power.
