Martin Audio releases BlacklineX Powered range

Martin Audio has launched its BlacklineX Powered loudspeakers and amplifiers series, following on from Martin Audio’s Blackline portable series.

The BlacklineX Powered range is comprised of the XP12 and XP15 two-way loudspeaker systems, featuring onboard DSP with a rotary control interface and 1300W of Class D amplification as well as the XP118 subwoofer.

The loudspeakers feature user rotatable 80 degree x 50 degree HF horns, with a three channel mixer and three band channel EQ, as well as HPF.

Dom Harter, managing director of Martin Audio explained: “We use the same high frequency devices, because the performance of those has been phenomenal, kind of a reliable, very low distortion, great sounding. And we use the same principles guiding that the industrial design that we've used before. Everything else is new, we've taken a look at the drivers that we had on the BlacklineX. We've designed a new driver from the ground up, impedance matched in with the amplifier to make sure we get the most out of it. And again, in the case of the sub, we've got a totally new four inch voice coil driver that we've never used before.

The loudspeakers are mounted in plywood enclosures, Harter said: “Plastic is not as stiff as wood, it’s totally sustainable. and if it's painted properly and treated properly, there's no reason it won't last forever.”

The XP118 subwoofer extends low frequency operating range of the system down to 42Hz, able to be flown with M10 insets.

The subwoofer features an 18-in excursion voice coil driver in an enclosure with four reflex ports with a convection-cooled Class D amplifier module capable of delivering 2000W of output to the driver.

Crossover, EQ, metering and control functions are provided via the onboard DSP with a rotary encoder interface and multi-function colour screen on the rear panel, with an additional 35mm pole-mount socket and side handles.

Looking to the future, Bluetooth control via an optional Bluetooth app will be launched later in the year for the BlacklineX Powered range, providing audio streaming and control from both Android and ios devices for streaming and control of the onboard DSP, mixer and mode functions.

Access to the mixer EQ, mute and level will also allow the speaker to be set-up remotely, enabling two speakers to be linked for stereo playback.
