Christie launches VDR software upgrade for CineLife+ cinema projectors

Christie has introduced VDR, a software-based upgrade for its CineLife+ Series cinema projectors, targeting improved contrast performance and reduced operating costs.

The launch will be showcased at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas, where Christie will demonstrate the upgrade on its RealLaser-equipped platforms.

Delivered via a software update, VDR introduces interframe laser power control, enabling projectors to dynamically adjust light output between frames. This approach allows on-screen contrast ratios of up to 10,000:1 when paired with a UHC lens, or 5,000:1 with high-brightness optics, improving the rendering of dark detail and image depth without requiring additional hardware.

Alongside image performance gains, the upgrade is designed to improve operational efficiency. Christie reports that VDR can reduce laser power consumption by up to 30% while extending laser lifetime by up to 50%, contributing to lower total cost of ownership for cinema operators.

Allan Fernandes, senior product manager at Christie, said: “VDR offers an experience like no other. It's designed to deliver measurable gains in both image performance and efficiency using our existing CineLife+ platform.”

The software is compatible with CineLife+ Series projectors using RealLaser illumination, allowing exhibitors to enhance performance through an upgrade rather than system replacement.
