SMPTE announces IBC showing as registration opens for SMPTE 2017
The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) has opened registration for its Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition.

SMPTE 2017 will start with a symposium on AI and machine learning when it takes place in Hollywood, California, October 24 to 26, 2017.

The symposium titled "Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning in Digital Media Creation: The Promise, The Reality, and The (Scary?) Future," will be followed by sessions, which will see 69 technical papers presented, as well as a conference keynote.

SMPTE will exhibit at IBC 2017 Visitors to the SMPTE stand where staff will be on hand to discus the “SMPTE Standards Quarterly Report," which details the outcome of the June 2017 SMPTE Standards Committee meeting. The report summarises the current progress of SMPTE committees that are working to create, approve, revise, and remove standards for the industry.

The SMPTE will also support IBC’s IP Showcase alongside the Audio Engineering Society (AES), Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS), Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA), European Broadcasting Union (EBU), IABM, Media Networking Alliance (MNA), and Video Services Forum (VSF).

The organisation will also host a conference session - SMPTE ST 2110: Professional Media Over Managed IP Networks - scheduled for the Forum on September 18, at 14:00. The session, part of the Advances in Technology stream, will provide an overview of the proposed SMPTE ST 2110 suite of standards and describe how the tools included in it can be used within an infrastructure of networked specifications.
