Martin Kuhn chooses Ayrton Cobra for Istanbul’s Maiden’s Tower Show
Martin Kuhn, MKLD Lighting Desing and Consulting in Berlin, has chosen Ayrton Cobra to light up the historic tower.

48 Cobra units were used in the installation, based at ground level and on the outer seawall. They are hidden behind closed hatches during the daytime. When the island closes at night the hatches are opened and the lights are exposed. The Cobra fixtures were supplied by local distributor, Asimetrik

Kuhn also used lasers in the show, working with LaserFabrik to set up and program the lasers. The lasers had to match the power of the Cobras so eight 50W RGB were placed on the top balcony as well as eight 24W RGB embedded in the sea walls.

Kuhn and his team programmed the show remotely in a studio using 3D model created in Depence 3D and GrandMA3 software.

Kuhn originally won a competition commissioned by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism for a light show that should highlight the Tower, be widely seen around Istanbul and run fully-automated every night. Kuhn aims to tell the story of the Tower using light with an accompanying narration.

The Maiden’s Tower Show runs at 10pm and 10.30pm every night and lasts for 7 minutes.
