K-array enhances Africa’s most advanced hockey arena
The Rabat Ice Hockey Arena is now home to a K-array audio system, bringing flexible audio to its multipurpose event space.

The Olympic-sized ice hockey rink, located in Rabat, Morocco, doubles as a multipurpose event space with integrated lighting, structural elements, LED walls, and a K-array audio system.

The K-array sound system is designed to fill the entire arena with immersive audio for any form of event.

This project was handled by Cegelec, a subsidiary of VINCI Energies that specialises in consulting, design, engineering, as well as the construction and maintenance of commercial and industrial buildings and infrastructure projects.

Cegelec’s audiovisual division managed the installation across the venue, supplying K-array kit from EcmaPro Systems, the brand’s Moroccan distributor.

The venue required an audio system that could support 360-degree entertainment across a range of use cases, from speeches and sporting announcements to music performances and large scale public events.

A compact, precisely controlled system was essential for this installation, with a need to deliver high output without creating the acoustic problems that less directional alternatives can introduce.

Cegelec supplied a combination of 48 Mugello KH2P I passive line array elements, 16 Thunder KS3 I active subwoofers and nine Kommander KA208 amplifiers.

The K-array engineering team worked with Cegelec throughout the project, providing system design consultation, acoustic modelling and analysis, on-site setup and tuning, as well as audiometric measurements and optimisation.

Najib Bouskour, director, Axians, a VINCI Energies company, commented: “Installing a system of this scale in a purpose-built hockey arena brings its own set of acoustic demands. K-array’s combination of precise beam control and clean high output gave us the tools to achieve consistent coverage throughout the venue, whether the arena is hosting a hockey match, a concert or anything else.”
