Meyer Sound has named John McMahon as chief operating officer, expanding a leadership role that has expanded his responsibilities over his 20 years with the company.
McMahon takes on the role of COO with 20 years of experience with Meyer Sound, formally taking responsibility for sales and marketing, R&D, and operations. This new role changes the scope of McMahon’s work, allowing him to focus more time across R&D and operations while also taking on an organisation-wide view.
McMahon joined Meyer Sound in 2006 through the acquisition of Level Control Systems, where he worked as CEO. McMahon served on the executive team since 2008, where his early work at the company focussed on digital engineering, including the technologies behind the Constellation acoustic system.
In this new role, McMahon will work in close collaboration with cofounders John Meyer and Helen Meyer, leading company-wide execution of Meyer Sound’s long-range vision and strategy.
The appointment coincides with a period of international expansion for Meyer Sound, following the opening of a new Shanghai facility that will produce Meyer Sound loudspeakers exclusively for the China market following the same processes and quality control standards as Meyer Sound’s California plant.
McMahon commented: “We push our products to perform at an extremely high level, and we’re pushing ourselves to perform at that same level from a business perspective. That means the way we operate has to scale with where we’re growing.
“This is a growth phase for the company. Shanghai was the first public announcement of that, and this role is another one. We’re working to position the company in a more connected fashion with our customers and strengthen our global footprint.”
