Worldwide sales for projectors boasting 4,000 lumens or more rose 6% (year on year) in the first half of 2013 according to market information firm, PMA Research.
In terms of value, worldwide sales of high-end projectors topped $1 billion (€0.7 billion) during the first half of the year.
Developing countries are pushing up unit shipments with products in demand from public display venues and higher education.
More than 100,000 digital cinema units were shipped in the same period although sales were lower than the same period last year. PMA says high digitisation rates in advanced economies were continuing to take their toll.
However, the company saw was a rapid uptake in lower cost models for smaller screens as well as continued growth in China, India, Latin Americas, and the Middle East and Africa. Shipments into these markets for the first half of 2013 hit a record level compared with any other previous six-month period.
