Audio-Technica amplifies Alpine World Ski Championships
Audio-Technica provided an entire ambience microphone system for the 2025 Alpine World Ski Championships in Saalbach Hinterglemm, Austria.

TV Skyline was commissioned by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation to produce the international television sound, specifying a range of Audio-Technica microphone systems for locations including the Starter’s House and stadium.

Lavalier, shotgun, and boundary microphone models were all employed to capture the race atmosphere, putting viewers at the centre of the action.

TV Skyline specified BP899 subminiature omnidirectional condenser lavaliers and U851R boundary microphones placed in the Starter House to pick up detailed sound while remaining discreet.

Customised wind baskets were used for U851R boundary microphones to capture the optimum sound without impact sound or wind noise, while the stadium is home to directional shotgun microphones including the BP4073, BP4071L long and BP4029 stereo models, ensuring that the TV audience is immersed in the race atmosphere.

Parabolic reflectors with Audio-Technica ES933 cardioid condenser microphones were used at the jumps, handheld by sound technicians to capture wind noise in the air and the jump. A specially developed microphone based on the BP899 was also used in the competitors’ helmets, tuned to a similar frequency response and level to the helmet microphones used in the MotoGP motorcycle race series.
