Apple will bring a free Metallica virtual reality and spatial audio experience to its Apple Stores, using a Vision Pro VR headset with 3D video from Metallica’s latest tour.
Three songs from the famous metal band can be experienced during the 25 minute show, including Enter Sanderman, One, and Whiplash, with concert footage recorded during the last of Metallica’s Mexico City gigs in September 2024.
Apple recorded the show using 14 camera rigs, shooting at 8K resolution, with views across the stage and arena, using spatial audio and ‘immersive’ video. The spatial audio will appear to move naturally as users move their heads during the show.
The Metallica immersive video experience joins a library of content made for the Vision Pro headset, available in the Apple TV app.
Lars Ulrich, Metallica, commented: “Seeing our concert like that, along with the energy of the Mexico City fans — it’s very immersive, and it’s super fun. We’ve always been interested in pushing the boundaries, and Metallica on Apple Vision Pro is exactly that.”
