After a big 12 months for the company, Paul Milligan spoke to Digital Projection’s Dermot Quinn to find out what’s next for the company currently at the forefront of laser projection.
UK-based projector manufacturer Digital Projection has had a big year. In November 2013 it launched the world’s brightest laser projector, the 12,000 lumens HIGHLite Laser 12k. It followed up that launch with the introduction of the Insight Laser 4K projector at InfoComm 2014. The 12,000 lumens, 4k model is capable of a resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels, and was undoubtedly one of the most significant launches at the Las Vegas show.
The company’s CTO and COO, Dermot Quinn, oversaw both products and has been with the company since it was formed in 1996. It was created after a MBO from the original owner, the cinema/entertainment group The Rank Organisation. Quinn has been in the electronics industry since 1984, where he put his Physics degree to good use designing components for radar systems.
It was an eventful first year for Quinn at Digital Projection, as the MBO occur six months after he joined, and the company launched its first DLP projector another 6 months after the MBO.
