When St Thomas’ Church in Kendal needed to upgrade their AV facilities they called on local integrator Audioworks (NW) Ltd, and following an outline of the Church’s requirements Audioworks turned to QSC for an audio system solution.
The brief for the project was fairly simple; a good sounding solution that would offer excellent coverage and performance whilst remaining sympathetic to the church’s interior. Martin Hodgson of Audioworks said: “Following initial discussions with representatives of St Thomas’ we agreed that a Line Array would offer the most complete solution and I proposed the QSC ILA range as a cost effective and aesthetically pleasing optionâ€.
The full specification for the project was based around the ILA (Installation Line Array) range; to provide adequate coverage two hangs of four WL-2082 speakers were required and these were positioned either side of the Chancel. The system was powered with a combination RMX1850 and RMX4050 amplifiers and system processing and EQ by the QSC SC28 System Controller. HPR181i powered Subwoofers were employed to handle the low range frequencies as they could easily be removed when not in use. QSC AD-S82H speakers provide coverage for the Balcony area powered by a GX3 amplifier.
The installation of the new PA passed smoothly and representatives of Shure Distribution were again on hand to help with the fine tuning as the system was commissioned. Hodgson was impressed “I think the sound quality and coverage is excellent and far more than we initially hoped for with the budgetary constraints we had. The WL-2082 were straightforward to install and position and when it came down to tweaking the ILA the SC28 was very intuitive to use.â€
