Zoom introduces AI companion

Zoom has introduced its AI Companion, formerly Zoom IQ, a generative AI digital assistant for improved productivity and connections.

AI Companion is available at no extra cost for users with paid Zoom user accounts and is available for use in Meetings, Team Chat, Phone, Email and Whiteboard, with additional features planned on the Zoom AI Companion roadmap.

AI Companion incorporates several, real-time AI capabilities at launch, enabling users in Zoom Meetings to watch recordings through highlights and smart chapters, reviewing summaries and next steps so that users can catch up on a missed meeting. If enabled by the meeting host, attendees can use AI Companion to catch up without disrupting the flow of a meeting by submitting questions via the in-meeting AI companion side panel to receive an AI-generated answer on what the user missed.

After a meeting, hosts can receive an automated meeting summary to share with attendees and those who were unable to attend a meeting.

In Zoom Team Chat, AI Companion allows users to draft messages based on the context of a chat thread, as well as change tone and length, enabling users to spend less time composing replies. Users will also be able to catch up on long chat threads through generative AI summarisation, with a future update to introduce the ability to auto-complete chat sentences and schedule meetings from a chat.
