Samsung has debuted its latest Onyx (ICD model) cinema LED screen at CinemaCon 2025, designed to improve screen scalability in theatre environments.
Samsung claims that the Onyx series is the first DCI-certified cinema LED display, capable of supporting frame rates up to 4K 120Hz for smooth motion and sharp details.
Onyx is available in four standard sizes, with additional flexible scaling options to allow theatres to maximise available space and present films in the largest possible format without compromising image quality.
The screen is available in five metre options (1.25mm pixel pitch), 10 metres (2.5mm pixel pitch), 14 metres (3.3mm pixel pitch) and a 20 metres version (5.0mm pixel pitch). Al models natively support both scope (2.39:1) and flat (1.85:1) aspect ratios, allowing films to be displayed in their intended formats without the needs for additional adjustments.
When scaling beyond standard sizes, Onyx can maintain both aspect ratios while maximising the screen size to allow content to expand proportionally without distortion.
The screen also uses Samsung’s HDR technology, reaching peak brightness levels of 300 nits and can be used in brightly lit environments for use with alternative content such as live sports, concerts, gaming events, and corporate presentations.
Onyx is compatible with both Dolby and GDC IMB media servers, as well as Dolby Atmos, Meyer Sound, QSC, as well as custom-designed sound systems. For theatres using Harman’s JBL surround sound technology, Onyx can integrate with these systems.
