Genelec introduces ‘more compact’ three-way monitor to loudspeaker range

Genelec has introduced a three-way midfield monitor into its ‘Main Ones’ family.

The 8380A three-way midfield SAM Main Monitor joins its larger 8381A sibling to deliver precise imaging and neutral sound reproduction.

It features a 15-inch woofer and patented Minimum Diffraction Coaxial (MDC) midrange-tweeter technology to support high SPL applications.

These range from premium home audio environments to medium-sized control rooms, including professional recording, mixing and mastering studios.

Siamäk Naghian, managing director at Genelec, said: “For many years, our legacy 1038 and newer 1238 monitors have been warmly embraced by mid-sized music, film and post rooms looking for accurate, truthful high SPL reproduction.

“With the recent introduction of the freestanding 8381A five-way main monitor, we could see the clear potential for a more compact three-way design that distils our latest coaxial technology into a traditional flush-mounting format.

“The 8380A fills that gap perfectly, and brings next-generation midfield performance to discerning studio professionals and home audio enthusiasts everywhere.”

The 8380A offers low self-noise of 0 dB SPL, time-aligned playback and directivity control. Its stable imaging and phase coherence produce fatigue-free listening, regardless of lengthy sessions or close listening distances.

The enclosure deploys two forward-facing reflex ports to produce clean LF playback at high levels and enable soffit-mounting.

Meanwhile, Genelec’s trademark Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW) houses the MDC coaxial midrange-tweeter driver. The 8380A itself shares the same physical dimensions as the 1038 and 1238 three-way monitors, making it an obvious upgrade for owners.

Its integrated RAM-L2 power amplifier module features 500 W and 250 W Class D amplifiers for the woofer and midrange driver respectively, with a 200 W Class AB stage powering the tweeter.

To meet sustainable design commitments, the 8380A offers minimal idle power consumption and intelligent power management through its ISS energy saving technology.

The 8380A will feature at a series of global events after its online launch, starting with Beatcon and Tonmeistertagung in Germany.

More are set to follow throughout 2025 and beyond.
