Scientists overhaul manufacturing process for cheaper loudspeakers
Tiny speakers can be inexpensively and quickly printed thanks to a combination of inkjet and laser technology, according to German scientists.

A demo component has been manufactured in a joint project that brings together the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, the Institute for Materials in Electrical Engineering 2 (IWE2) at RWTH Aachen University and the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology ISIT.

The tiny, hexagonal loudspeaker is cheap to produce and the manufacturing method is digitally controllable meaning instantaneous changes can be made to the design. This lends the method to small batch production and could allow a wider of range of companies to viably create loudspeakers.
