Panasonic appoints University of Staffordshire as Kairos Academy partner
The University of Staffordshire has become the first UK university to become a Kairos Academy partner thanks to a collaboration between the university and integrator Digital Garage.

The University of Staffordshire is home to a new Esports arena, covered in an exclusive Inavate case study in January 2025.

The University of Staffordshire’s Kairos Academy will specialise in educating operators and students on getting the most out of the Kairos IP-based live video production platform. The university was the first to launch a dedicated eSports degree, investing £2.7 million in upgrading its infrastructure with Panasonic broadcasting equipment.

Two Panasonic Kairos AT-KC200 mainframes were installed, utilising the SMPTE ST 2110 IP-based transmission standard. Speaking about the project exclusively with Inavate, Matt Seymour, managing director, Digital Garage, said: “The Kairos is the beating heart of the space. Being natively 2110 was a great starting point for the project. It’s low latency, great integration, and being resolution agnostic allowed us to send anything anywhere, in any aspect ratio. When you have a screen layout that has a presenter’s desk, screens underneath the gamers, then the large screen behind, there are some unusual aspect ratios, and the Kairos can handle it seamlessly.”

Richard Mortimer, technical services manager, University of Staffordshire, commented: “We’re delighted to be the first UK university to become a KAIROS Academy Partner. It gives us the best opportunity to utilise Panasonic’s and Digital Garage’s expertise to train our students with the required IP-based skills required for a future in video production – whilst positioning us a leader in academic eSports broadcasting.”
