Ocean Outdoor and Absen have partnered to install a custom, curved display, replacing The Screen @ Arndale, Manchester.
The custom-designed LED display is integrated into the building’s 34-metre convex curve, located in the centre of Manchester at the Arndale Centre, one of the largest indoor shopping centres in the UK, featuring more than 200 stores.
The project’s brief aimed to replace the previous screen with a new display, making the most of the existing structure and fitting into the building’s 34-metre convex curve, designed to ensure energy-saving performance and remote monitoring capabilities.
Absen worked closely with Ocean Outdoor to create a customised cabinet system, designed to fit the Arndale Centre’s curvature requirements, blending with the building aesthetic.
Absen created a prototype set-up at its UK showroom to road-test the display cabinets and screen, requiring a lightweight construction to work with the existing steel support structure. The system is designed for maintenance access while fitting the precise convex curve. As a result, Absen’s A0621 energy saving display was specified to meet these requirements.
The screen measures 17.92 metres wide by 5.12 metres high, with a custom ‘cut panel’ feature designed to fit the building’s curve, featuring a 30% reduction in power consumption to lower operational costs and monitoring features for real-time data collection and management.
