At the Shanghai auto show, April 21 to 29, Mercedes-Benz is displaying a concept car with projector-powered headlights capable of beaming pictures of videos onto screens or other surfaces. The front headlamps of the Concept GLA use laser light source projectors that can play multiple media formats served up from smart phones, the internet or a hard drive.
Action can also be produced live using two cameras, housed in the front roof rail. The units capture 3D images and can be removed for use elsewhere.
Mercedes says the projectors will further the head-up display concept and could help improve road safety by projecting arrows onto the road to display a driver’s intentions to other road users.
