Genelec will donate a percentage of sales of its RAW loudspeaker range to the Audio Engineering Society (AES), for the remainder of this year.
The audio manufacturer will also fund ten one-year AES memberships for people who have been impacted by the Covid-19 crisis.
Genelec is a sustaining member of the AES and acted after the society called for donations to support it as it was hit by the coronavirus situation. The AES is looking to raise $500,000 (approximately €460,000) in donations.
The AES was founded in the United States in 1948 as a professional society devoted exclusively to audio technology. The international organisation counts audio engineers, creative artists, scientists and students among its membership and promotes advances in audio and disseminates new knowledge and research.
Siamak Naghian, managing director of Genelec, said “To us, the AES represents the only serious forum for the development of audio, and the work it does for our industry is invaluable. In its pursuit of excellence and dedication to raising the bar in
the industry, it is without equal, and our approaches have much in common. We will do everything we can to help the Society through the ongoing crisis, and this donation is just one way of showing our support and appreciation for this much-loved institution.”
The ten one-year memberships that Genelec is offering is in addition to its existing Ilpo
Martikainen Audio Visionary Scholarship, offered annually to US graduate students in the field of audio engineering who are members of the society.
AESPresident Agnieszka Roginska said: “Genelec has been a steadfast partner to the AES for decades, contributing resources and expertise that play a major role in the quality of our Convention technical programs.
“Genelec engineers consistently and generously share their knowledge as well, enriching the dialogues that advance the science and practice that are the foundation of professional audio. With the announcement that they are contributing a share of the proceeds of all sales of the new Genelec RAW loudspeakers to the AES’s current fundraising initiative, Genelec is reinforcing their commitment to the continued vitality of the audio industry. The AES greatly appreciates Genelec’s pledge of yet further support, helping sustain the Society’s essential contributions to the audio industry.”
