EM Acoustics empowers Theatre Royal Plymouth
The Theatre Royal Plymouth (TRP) is home to a new EM Acoustics audio system, as part of an upgrade to the 1,300 seat venue.

As a home to a broad spectrum of performances including touring musicals, dance productions, comedy shows, and drama, the TRP’s Lyric Theatre features a seating capacity of 1,300 which can be reduced to 800 through the adjustment of the theatre’s moving roof, allowing the theatre to accommodate both large touring productions and more intimate and personal performances.

The TRP required an upgrade to its ageing audio system, and once again turned towards an EM Acoustics audio system to fit the bill.

The TRP’s Lyric auditorium presented challenges for the in-house technical team due to the venue’s irregular shape, combined with the ability to alter the ceiling height which required a careful planning approach to achieve uniform sound coverage

The main PA on the proscenium is based around EM Acoustic’s Reference series, using R10 loudspeakers placed on the left and right sides across all three levels, supported by a centre cluster of R8s with one unit per level.

S18 subwoofers are positioned on either side of the stage, with a pair of S15 loudspeakers for additional coverage in the circle and upper levels. Pairs of EMS81X loudspeakers are used as side fills in the circle and upper levels, while EMS61s and EMS51s serve as delays and fills across the stalls, circle and upper circle.

Four MC15 floor monitors, as well as four EMS81X spot speakers are used for special effects, with five DQ10 and five DQ6 amplifiers powering the setup, networked via Dante.
