Christie and Dolby Laboratories have announced plans to roll out new Dolby Vision laser projection systems, with aims to roll out into theatres in May.
The next-gen Dolby Vision projection system is a 4K projection system that will use RGB pure laser illumination to enable Dolby’s wide colour gamut 1.0, reportedly featuring twice the brightness of typical cinema projections and a contrast ratio exceeding a million-to-one.
The next generation Dolby Vision laser projection system will aim to integrate into a range of theatrical offerings to extend the reach of Dolby Vision, including Dolby Cinema, as well as Dolby Vision + Dolby Atmos aimed at premium auditoriums.
Pascal Sijen, senior director, business and strategic planning, cinema, Dolby, commented: “Christie has been central in Dolby’s ongoing mission to deliver Dolby Vision experiences to more cinemas.
“We look forward to bringing exhibitors this new projection solution that offers the same industry leading and award-winning image performance, all while making it dramatically more efficient and easier to adopt by exhibitors.”
