The Smart Building Award - sponsored by KNX, headline sponsor of the 2026 Inavation Awards - recognises the AV professionals driving truly intelligent buildings. Entries are open now, with a deadline of November 1, 2025, and this year’s competition invites projects completed between October 1, 2024 and October 1, 2025.
AV no longer exists in isolation. The most forward-thinking integrators and consultants are expanding their scope, delivering or contributing to smart building infrastructure where HVAC, lighting, sensors, energy management and AV all work in harmony. Even where AV isn’t leading the smart building strategy, it increasingly plays a crucial role, feeding valuable data into wider systems, from occupancy information and environmental preferences to energy usage insights.
The Smart Building Award celebrates those projects where AV plays an intelligent, integrated role within the wider building ecosystem. Judges will be looking for examples where installed systems interface seamlessly with building management platforms, or where AV specialists have taken on broader responsibilities to deliver connected, automated environments.
The good news? You don’t need to submit an extra entry to be considered. Simply enter any of the Inavation Awards’ vertical market categories and tick the box to also be considered for the Smart Building Award. You’ll be asked a few brief additional questions and must include a clearly headed section within your entry explaining how your systems contribute to or interface with smart building technologies. That’s two chances to win from one entry.
