d&b audiotechnik introduces the U-Series multipurpose point source loudspeakers

d&b audiotechnik has introduced the U-Series range of multipurpose point source loudspeakers, with three models available in both networked and passive variants.

A new acoustical design concept delivers directivity control and efficiency, giving users consistent results across applications and the confidence to choose exactly the right technical solution for each specific project.

The U-Series' modern, application neutral design integrates into both mobile and installed setups. Its discreet industrial look, without visible handles or rigging points, blends into any installation project, respecting architectural or aesthetic constraints. For mobile applications, its rugged, solid construction, premium materials, and finishes align with traditional d&b touring-grade accessories.

At the core of the U-Series is a no-compromise electroacoustic design approach. The bipolar woofer configuration extends vertical directivity control down to ±500 Hz. All variants deliver identical low-frequency performance down to 55 Hz and feature the port design technology developed for SL-Series, ensuring consistency across the range and supporting full-range performance for nearfield applications without subwoofers.

Each model features a new, patent-pending waveguide horn assembly that can be rotated 90° without tools, providing superior broadband HF dispersion control, and extraordinary off-axis behavior.

The first models of the U-Series include three passive (U3, U5, U7) and three hybrid-topology networked loudspeaker models (U3N, U5N, U7N).

The passive and networked versions are physically and acoustically identical, allowing users to choose the ideal system architecture solution that meets the specific requirements of their project or event.

The passive models integrate into the industry-standard d&b Workflow and amplifier ecosystem. When used with the 5D or the new 5DM amplifier (the Milan-AVB version of the 5D), users can choose between Dante and Milan audio networks or even combine them. The passive models are suitable for applications where cost-efficiency and amplifier channel count are key, especially when amplifier racks provide the most convenient infrastructure or when loudspeakers are deployed in mobile or outdoor environments.

The networked variants offer an unprecedented level of system architecture freedom, providing users with a wide range of configuration possibilities. Featuring a hybrid-topology networked DSP power module, the U-Series networked variants operate with AC and/or PoE++ power in dual Milan and R1 networks, offering power, signal, and network redundancy, single-cable operation, daisy-chaining/grouping, and even offline operation controlled via an NFC app.

The U-Series is engineered for efficiency across all power sources.  Whether powered by any d&b amplifier, AC, or PoE++, users can expect consistent, professional audio SPL. The networked versions deliver full SPL with less than 90 watts of PoE++, making them ideal for projects that require advanced setups and configurations, or multiple system architecture options.

Setting up a single-cable solution (R1 + Milan + PoE++) requires the new d&b DN2 Milan-AVB switch, which provides 8 x 90W PoE++ ports. Additional options include third-party Milan PoE++ devices or PoE++ injectors for DN1.

The networked U-Series models are the perfect choice for distributed audio systems or immersive audio applications such as d&b Soundscape, as well as for all projects where decentralisation of power and DSP is essential for infrastructure, budget or logistical reasons.
