Located in the Vidhana Soudha, the seat of the state government of Karnataka, the Karnataka Legislative council is part of the local legislature and charged with promoting the welfare of the state of Karnataka. For its 104 seat council hall, it chose a Shure DIS conferencing system to facilitate discussion and decision making.
Sun Infonet, a Shure authorized distributor in India, implemented the system hall. After evaluating the council’s audio requirements and meeting needs, Sun Infonet selected the Shure DCS 6000 digital conference system for the job. K. C. Pant, assistant manager at Sun Infonet, talked about why the product was chosen: “We have had continuous success and received great feedback on the Shure DIS solutions from other government bodies throughout the country and knew it was the right fit for the Karnataka Legislative council hall.â€
The team at the Vidhana Soudha has specific requirements. It particular it was looking for flush-mounted shotgun gooseneck microphones that would allow the microphones to be placed at greater distance from the user, while still being operational. The microphones also needed to blend with the historic ambience of the council hall.
The council also required modern, advanced meeting functionalities like an integrated chip card reader for delegate identification and voting capabilities on each conference unit, as well as agenda handling. Other requirements included language interpretation, encryption for secure audio transmission, and audio recording and transcription.
In addition, the council requested to have its government logo added on every conference unit. The Shure DIS conference system was able to serve all these needs. Pant detailed another requirement of the council: “In addition to the conference system setup, the Karnataka Legislative Council Chamber also needed a camera tracking system so that every delegate and media representative in the hall could see who was speaking at any time. The CCS 7800 Camera Control System is a great product within the DIS series and fulfils this requirement by seamlessly tracking microphone activation.â€
The CCS 7800 is a video-follow-audio camera tracking system compatible with both the DIS DDS 5900 and DCS 6000 series. It can handle up to 4 cameras, each able to be programmed with 400 different camera positions, covering a total of up to 1,600 seats. The video image can then be displayed on a large screen, or used for streaming or recording purposes.
