The renovation of JMC Academy’s Sydney campus has seen two studios outfitted with Genelec smart active monitoring systems.
Fully redesigned from the ground up by architect Shaun Charter and interor designer Julie Nass, the renovation to multifunction Studio A and the adjacent Studio C required both surround and stereo monitoring configurations.
Glenn Leembruggen, acoustic engineer, Acoustic Directions, was called on to specify Genelec’s ‘The Ones’ series for the studio redesign, working with distributor Studio Connections to deliver the system.
Studio A was previously outfitted with a pair of 20-years-old 10340A in Studio A, replacing these aging models with 8316A monitors which are soffit-mounted into the wall in the LCR positions.
A pair of 8351Bs straddle the console bridge as stereo nearfields, with 8340As for the rears and a 7360A for the sub, creating a fully independent 5.1 surround system.
Studio C was equipped with a pair of Genelec 8351Bs, soffit-mounted into the wall to reproduce the nuances of the music heard in the studio.
The system was calibrated with Genelec’s GLM loudspeaker management software, optimising each monitor for the room to allow users to switch between monitors and maintain control of listening levels in each studio.
