Gaudí's vision realised as Barcelona icon transformed with projection mapping

Barcelona's Sagrada Família cathedral was transformed during the city's La Mercè festival when Montreal media studio, Moment Factory bathed the iconic building in a psychedelic sea of colours for a 15-minute projection mapping show. Content was inspired by architect, Antoni Gaudí's original colour sketches and you can't help but feel this is how Gaudí imagined his unfinished masterpiece.

A team of twelve used Moment Factory’s own X-Agora software to control sound, light and video for the mesmerising show, played out to a crowd of 32,000 people.

Swiss company, Skynight provided technical support as 16 Christie Roadster projectors, 13 computers and 25 moving lights were employed for the highlight of a festival dubbed Barcelona’s biggest party.

Gaudí was working on the Sagrada Família when he was killed after being struck by a Barcelona tram in 1926. The cathedral, now a UNESCO world heritage site, is still unfinished with completion expected in 2026.
