Nike creates futuristic all-LED basketball court
As part of his visit to China this summer, global basketball superstar Kobe Bryant was in Shanghai to open the House of Mamba (named after Bryant's nickname), the world’s first touch-sensitive LCD basketball court. The court has been built for training sessions, and it has the ability to track each player's progress as he or she moves around the court.
The LED court has the ability to otion track an entire team, enabling them to conduct precise training drills by following an icon on the floor. Several of the training programmes from the House of Mamba were based on Bryant’s own training methods and adapted specifically for the court.
Aside from the training benefits, should this court become the norm, it has huge commercial potential, as it has the ability to show sponsor's logos or any kind of content on it, before, during and after a match has taken place.
The court was created by Nike and digital innovation company AKQA. It was created as part of Nike Basketball's "RISE" campaign and will host a competition between 30 players from 27 different cities.
