NEC releases tuner

NEC Display Solutions says users can now receive DVB-T, IPTV and analogue signals via the option slot on their display with its Tuner.

The NEC Tuner is claimed to offer a cost-effective solution to receive TV signals on a public display. The option slot, integrated within the display, obviates the need for additional cables or external devices. Channels can also be changed via LAN through the built-in HTTP server.

IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) is suitable for entry level digital signage products. Commercials or selected information can be transmitted via the network, for example as video, to broadcast on public displays as a uni or multicast system. In the educational field certain programmes can be shown in classrooms and at key information spots on campus. In addition large companies can transmit important corporate news to all public displays on the premises. The signals are managed throughout the network from a single device.
