Panasonic has not denied claims that it may stop manufacturing plasma displays, as reported in the Japanese business newspaper Nikkei.
According to the article, which did not cite any sources, Panasonic plans to end plasma production at its Amagaskai facility next year. It claimed that Panasonic had halted new development of plasmas partly because the flat-TV market is shrinking in Japan and continued manufacture of LCD and plasma screens would not be cost effective.
A company spokesman would not be drawn on the claims and would not say if professional products would be affected.
“The content of the report is not something announced by Panasonic,†they said.
“Regarding the growth strategy for the TV business, we are looking into a variety of options, but nothing has been decided at the moment.â€
