L-Acoustics has announced a strategic investment in French-based MagREEsource, establishing exclusive partner rights in the professional audio industry for sustainable, European-based rare earth magnets for loudspeaker manufacturing.
The partnership aims to introduce a circular economy model for the professional audio industry through magnet recycling and manufacturing, with L-Acoustics supporting a start-up partner that will allow the manufacturer to reduce *its environmental footprint while diversifying its supply sources for neodymium magnets used in loudspeaker manufacturing.
MagREE source creates proprietary recycling technology to enable 100% recovery of neodymium magnets from loudspeakers, electric vehicle engines, and wind turbine generators, becoming high-performance magnets made from 100% recycled material. The company claims that a recycled magnet from MagREEsource can produce 91% less carbon dioxide than traditionally manufactured magnets from newly extracted materials, producing 6kg of C02 compared to an estimated 67.6kg for conventionally manufactured magnets. The company also claims to use 86% less water, saving an approximate 1,187 litres per kilogram of magnet produced.
Hervé Guillaume, CEO, L-Acoustics Group, commented: “The strategic investment and partnership with MagREEsource represent a significant advancement in our sustainability journey.
"By securing exclusive access to this revolutionary technology for the professional audio sector, we are not only reducing our environmental footprint but also strengthening our supply chain resilience and delivering on our commitment to responsible innovation. We're proud to support a promising startup whose breakthrough technology has the potential to transform sustainability practices across multiple industries. The ability to recycle nearly 100% of magnet materials from diverse sources creates a true circular economy model that can benefit the audio sector and beyond."
