Google has announced the five finalists in each of its three age categories in its annual science fair contest. Open to all students aged 13 to 18 from around the world, the online competition is designed to champion young scientific talent and give students the opportunity to showcase their ideas. Three winners will be chosen from each age group, with an overall winner chosen from those three.
As always there is a broad mix of topics covered in the final selections, but of particular note to the AV industry might be Vighnesh Leonardo Shiv’s project entitled “Foundational Algorithms for Music Analysis with Wide Applicability in Signal Processing”, and Dora Chen’s “A Novel Aid with Facial Detection, Facial Recognition, and Audio Analysis Capabilities for Patients with Dementia or Communication Disorders and their Caretakers”.
Both are blessed with catchy titles, but joking aside their work looks incredible. A full list of the finalists, and links to their projects is on the Google science fair site. Well worth a read, and really interesting.
