Facebook has announced that it will trial advertisements within its Oculus VR headsets, marking the company’s first use of advertising in VR.
The Oculus ads will initially appear only on the VR shooter game, Blaston, with ads set to appear in two other Oculus apps over the coming weeks.
Advertising plays a key role in Facebook’s ad revenue, with an approximate 97% of the company’s revenue being generated by advertisements across its platforms.
Users will be able to hide specific ads and hide ads from specific advertisers, with Facebook stressing that advertisements will not be based on any data that is stored locally on a user’s headset.
