Joel Mulpeter, senior director, product marketing, Crestron, introduces the company’s latest DM NVX 384encoder/decoder.
Last October, I had the honor of introducing Crestron’s latest AV-over-IP product – the new DM NVX® 384 encoder/decoder. This wasn’t your typical product launch; this was a global live-streamed event. And the live stream was followed up by a full week of festivities, which we dubbed AV-over-IP Week. There were lunch and learns, webinars, and a massive PR and communications campaign. We also released our new DM NVX-D education curriculum. We ended the week with over 500 students trained on our AVoIP solutions.
You can watch the live stream here:
It was the perfect reminder that Crestron is about so much more than products. Yes, we launched the DM NVX 384 encoder/decoder, and yes, it’s a big product for us. But what the 384 really represents is an evolution of our DM NVX® AV-over-IP technology solution and the True Blue commitment we strive to uphold for our customers and partners.
When our engineering team brought our DM NVX system to life in 2017, we knew then that AV-over-IP was the future of content distribution. And since then, we have been tinkering and tweaking tirelessly. To date, we’ve added more than 100 new features to DM NVX technology.
The excitement for this platform hasn’t slowed. Even now, if you get our engineers talking about the new DM NVX 384, you’re met with wry smiles and twinkling eyes as they casually comment, “The 384 is only the beginning of the latest generation of DM NVX.”
You won’t get more than that out of them, but the writing is already on the wall. It's important for us to continue evolving our DigitalMedia™ technology family of devices and it’s equally important for us to keep new products backward compatible. Yes, this is a new product, but it’s simply an addition to the larger system. Hopefully, in this new addition, you get a feel for why and how we focus our efforts.

Meeting emerging trends
It’s got USB-C® connectivity, a rapidly adopted connector vying for standardization in the market. It’s on laptops, phones, computer docks, and just about everything else. Who doesn’t relish the convenience of this single-cable solution? It sends video. It sends audio. And let’s not forget this little win ... it’s dramatically easier to plug in when compared to traditional USB (there is no right-side up or upside-down).
Then there’s the 5K resolution.
On ultra-wide and super-wide 21:9 and 32:9 displays, 5K resolution delivers stunning clarity and presence. It fills the room with vibrant detail, making a powerful visual impression. Whether you're leading a presentation or joining a hybrid meeting, the added screen real estate helps create a more impactful and equitable experience.
The DM NVX 384 was a natural addition to our DigitalMedia family. It became a passion project; 5K resolution and USB-C connectivity are the kind of novel technologies our engineers are eager to get on their tech bench. They landed on a form factor that brought them both together beautifully in a multi-input switching encoding/decoding box.
Future Features Firm Up
The DM NVX 384 is a brilliant solution for content sharing. In fact, our NVX team was so hyped with this project, they couldn’t stop themselves from further tweaking. Now, seven months later, we bring you a brand-new feature. We call it, Multiview.
Multiview can call up to six video sources onto a single screen. Think sports bars, command and control centers, and courtrooms. That’s six different sports games or six camera feeds or six dashboards or any combination you and your client can dream up
It’s a powerful new feature, delivered at no added cost, through a firmware upgrade to any existing 384 unit.

A new generation: What’s next?
So, what do these modern features say about the next generation of DM NVX technology? We’ll leave it to you to speculate on that.
One thing we can say for sure is we’re still all in on AV-over-IP. And if our engineers are getting this giddy about the roadmap, now may be a good time to consider an AV-over-IP foundation built on DM NVX.
