Daktronics delivers first-ever ‘Flame Ball’ centrehung display
Daktronics partnered with the Miami HEAT to manufacture and install the first ‘Flame Ball’ centrehung LED sculpture.

The logo-shaped sculpture is a part of 61 LED displays, illuminating more than 1021 sq. m of digital canvas, a 585% increase from the venue’s previous displays.

The impressive sculpture boasts 72 million pixels, powered by Daktronics Show Control.

The entire centrehung covers 1.5 times the square footage of a basketball court and would require 697 60-in televisions to cover the entire centrehung’s surface with 2.5mm pixel spacing to bring the Miami HEAT’s 3D logo to life.

The ‘Flame Ball’ is at the centre of the system that hangs above the court, with four centrehung video displays facing each discretion of the arena. Each video display measures 5.94m high by 8.9m wide with 2.5mm pixel spacings. Two upper rings circle the configuration above the main video displays, with each ring measuring 1.21m high by 64.9m wide in circumference with 3.9mm pixel spacing.

The sculpture, ring displays, main video, and underbelly displays are situated on three separate hoists to raise and lower the setup as needed when accommodating events hosted by the Kaseya Centre.

Reece Kurtenbach, president and CEO, Daktronics, commented: "Building first-of-its-kind creations using LED technology is something that drives our company forward and excites our employees.

“Bringing this iconic sculpture to life for the Miami HEAT, Kaseya Center and their audiences is a great engineering feat that we are proud to have accomplished.”
