Absen and creative studio, Final Pixel, have created a virtual production training academy to give hands-on experience for students at Buckinghamshire New University (BNU). UK.
Final Pixel and Absen provided the opportunity for Visual Effects and Games Art students to develop skills and refine their knowledge of the industry with a live brief, finishing with support and expertise across a four-month project and a two-week virtual production shoot.
Absen’s PL2.5 LED screen was used to demonstrate virtual production was used to demonstrate virtual production capabilities, offering the capability to create a 25-30 metre curved volume as well as smaller, twenty panel screens to film basic shots.
Final Pixel also delivered a ‘train the trainer’ program for BNU staff and faculty to upskill staff and share industry knowledge and insights which can be used to build into the university’s curriculum and a framework to build virtual production projects.
Dr Jodi Nelson-Tabor, business development and training manger, Final Pixel Academy, commented: “This was the first virtual production (VP) shoot these students had worked on. This project provided the opportunity to learn all about these new technologies, including the Absen LED video wall, camera tracking and Unreal Engine.
“There are lots of opportunities for collaboration and innovation between industry and education and Universities are the seat for that. Working together helps us all aim to fill these acute skills gaps within the creative industry,”
